Mugosake (2001-2004)

Mugosake was a Los Angeles-based band (2001-2004) consisting of Robbie Harrison on vocals and guitar, Patrick Salvant on vocals and bass, and Andy Laben on drums (occasionally, Robbie and Andy would switch roles.) The first half of the band's existence focused on the members learning to play their instruments and learning to play together. The songs tended to be different from each other as they were a collection of each member's own writings. "The Sweatshop Demos" is the band's first and only album. After only a few live shows, the band decided to switch gears: songs were shaped collectively from hours of jam sessions; they were all instrumental and tended to be much longer than the previous year's pop songs. A few more live shows and the band dissolved as the members' lives took them in different directions. Andy went back home to Chicago. Patrick eventually headed to New Orleans and back home to Texas. And Robbie stayed in his native Los Angeles, continuing his own personal musical projects as Toy Masulina (initially called I, Robot.)
